the do's and don'ts of neighbour noise

It is almost impossible to keep sound to a minimum in our homes all the time. Daily activity means that we have to use washing machines, carry out DIY projects or let our children play their music.

However, noise disputes occur because of inconsiderateness. It’s important to acknowledge the noise that your household makes and think about the impact it might be having on your neighbours. Get to know your neighbours and their lifestyle i.e. are they retired? Do they work night shifts? Once you have done this, then you can fully consider the effect that you are having on your neighbour.

If you suspect you are upsetting or disturbing them, then try to reduce your noise levels and go and speak to your neighbour to apologise.

In addition to this, if you are approached by a neighbour and asked to keep the noise down, then react positively and respect their right to peace and quiet in their home.
